Woodhill Road, Shropshire
Location: Shropshire
Completion Date: May 2025
Duration: 2 Days
Service Type: 2-Way Traffic Signals
Background
CHM Group provided traffic management services to support utility surveying and GPR scanning along Woodhill Road in Shropshire. The site presented several challenges, primarily due to on-street parking throughout the length of the works area and the close proximity of residential properties. The project formed part of early-stage planning for a proposed nearby housing development.
Our Approach
CHM Group coordinated closely with Shropshire Council and local bus operators to agree on road space availability, timing, and the temporary relocation of a bus stop within the works footprint. Traffic management was implemented on one side of the carriageway for the first day and switched to the opposite side on day two to complete the works efficiently.
Standard 2-way temporary traffic signals were deployed, supported by Oxford Plastics Enduraframe 1500 signage. The CHM team maintained a proactive on-site presence, ensuring smooth operation and minimal disruption to residents and bus services.
Community engagement played a vital role in this project:
-
One week prior to the works, CHM conducted the installation of advanced warning signs, carried out an informative leaflet drop and door-to-door engagement with residents within the works area to explain upcoming activity and encourage temporary relocation of parked vehicles.
-
The night before works commenced, no-parking cones were installed, and the team revisited residents to address any final questions or concerns.
Results & Impact
-
Works were completed safely and without incident.
-
CHM engaged directly with residents who had concerns about vehicle access and parking, facilitating alternative arrangements where possible to maintain goodwill and cooperation.
-
All works were completed without issue, with residents’ vehicles moved to allow full access for the planned traffic management setup.
-
Lessons learnt: proactive, face-to-face community engagement was key to success. Early communication and follow-up visits ensured smooth operations and prevented potential disruptions.
This project demonstrates CHM Group’s commitment to being people-powered, proactive, and reliable. Through thorough planning, open communication, and on-site professionalism, the works were delivered safely, efficiently, and without incident.
