Shannon Road, Birmingham
Location: Birmingham
Completion Date: April 2025
Duration: 1 Week
Service Type: 2-Way & 4-Way Traffic Signals, Mobile Works
Background
As part of a proposed community redevelopment project, our Client required extensive utility and ground-penetrating radar (GPR) surveys across a busy section of Shannon Road in Birmingham. The area featured high traffic volumes, several community facilities, and residential properties, creating a challenging environment for safe and efficient surveying. With a large area to cover in a short time frame, minimising disruption to local residents and maintaining access were critical considerations.
Our Approach
CHM Group worked closely with Birmingham City Council, local residents, and businesses to plan and deliver a tailored traffic management solution. The works were carried out overnight between 19:30 and 06:00, allowing the client to complete surveys safely while keeping daytime traffic flowing freely.
The scheme involved multiple traffic signal set-ups, including both 2-way and 4-way systems, as well as mobile works to support the survey team’s movements. Numerous signal switches were managed during each shift to maximise our Cleints’ productivity and minimise downtime.
Key measures included:
-
Use of Oxford Plastics Enduraframe 1500 for signage.
-
No-parking cones and advance leaflet drops to maintain access and provide early engagement with residents and businesses.
-
Constant on-site supervision and proactive management to ensure smooth progression and quick adaptation to changing requirements.
While the project didn’t involve innovative new systems, CHM’s commitment to hands-on management and transparent communication ensured consistent progress and client satisfaction.
