Oakley Straight,
Eastbourne

Location: Eastbourne

Completion Date: June 2025

Duration: 1 Week

Service Type: 2-Way, 3-Way & 4-Way Traffic Signals

Background

Our Client required a traffic management solution to facilitate utility surveying and CCTV drainage inspections along Oakley Straight in Eastbourne. The area presented unique challenges due to its residential setting and proximity to a primary school, making night-time working essential to minimise disruption. These inspections formed part of a proposed community redevelopment project and focused on assessing potential drainage failures and surface water flooding risks.

Our Approach

CHM Group coordinated with BCP Council to plan the works, agreeing on optimal timings and road space availability. The scheme required multiple traffic management set-ups with frequent signal switches to maximise client productivity and minimise downtime.

Traffic management included 2-way, 3-way, and 4-way traffic signal systems supported by Oxford Plastics Enduraframe 1500 signage. The CHM team managed all aspects of the site proactively, ensuring operations were seamless and efficient throughout the night.

Key aspects of the project included:

  • Night working between 19:00 and 06:00 to avoid disruption to school and commuter traffic.

  • Multiple traffic signal configurations with proactive site supervision.

  • Coordination with the council and community to maintain safety and accessibility.

Although the works did not require innovative systems, CHM’s hands-on management ensured the project ran smoothly and productively from start to finish

Results & Impact

  • Works completed safely and without incident.

  • Direct engagement with concerned residents regarding potential noise and disruption was handled professionally and courteously by CHM staff. Adjustments were made to prioritise work in densely populated areas earlier in the evening, reducing impact on the local community.

  • Client was extremely satisfied with CHM’s performance, leading to repeat business.

  • Lessons learnt: proactive community engagement builds trust and improves relationships with both residents and clients.

This project highlights CHM Group’s core values of being people-powered, proactive, and reliable. The works were delivered safely, efficiently, and with professionalism, reflecting our commitment to client satisfaction and community consideration.
